What to Expect During the Test

An EMG / nerve conduction study usually includes two parts:

Nerve Conduction Study (NCS):
Small electrical impulses are used to measure how well signals travel through the nerves.

Electromyography (EMG):
A thin recording electrode is used to assess electrical activity in selected muscles.

The test is performed in the office and is generally well tolerated. The exact areas tested depend on your symptoms and exam findings.
